Petrucci Powers Scrappers To Victory...Again
Niles, OH -
The hero of Sunday night's extra inning win at Williamsport played hero again Monday night as the Scrappers beat the State College Spikes 4-0 Monday night.
Nick Petrucci hit a 2-run pinch hit homer Sunday in the eleventh to win the game Sunday for Mahoning Valley. He lined a 2-run homer to leftfield tonight off State College pitcher Anthony Watson to give the Scrappers a 2-0 lead. They made it 4-0 in the seventh when Jansy Infante ripped a 2-out double down the right field line.
That's all the support the Scrappers offense needed as starter Heath Taylor picked up his first pro win. He allowed just 5 hits over 5.2 innings. Kyle Collina and Kyle Landis worked the final 3.1 innings to close it out. At the plate Mark Thompson went 3-4. He has 10 hits in his last 23 at bats. Cardinal Mooney grad Jeff Hehr was 1-3. Harding grad Justin Byler reached in all four plate appearances. He singled, doubled, walked and was hit by a pitch.
The Scrappers and Spikes are both 19-20 on the year. Mahoning Valley has won 3 of 4. They will play Tuesday night at 7:05pm. Dan Frega will start for the Scrappers. It is awful night at Eastwood Field with $.25 cent hotdogs and Union Pride Day.
